30 May How to keep your employees motivated during the summer holidays
Whether you have children at home who are enjoying a six-week summer break, or have just returned from a holiday in a tropical country, it can be really hard to stay motivated and productive in an office environment during the summer months. The warm weather and sunshine makes it all-the-more difficult to stay sitting at a desk – but there are things that you, as an employer, can do to help your employees make the most of the summer months, whilst still encouraging them to work hard.
Encouraging your employees to work flexibly allows them to take some control over their working week. If your employees are aware that they can work off-site if they wish, or choose their own hours, then it can make the transition from home to work life easier – and is likely to make employees more productive during the summer months. Flexible working also makes it easier for employees to attend personal commitments without compromising on their work.
Organise parties and events
To keep your workforce happy and motivated, take the time to organise parties and events during the summer months. Try and incorporate at least one of these into the working day; this will give your employees something to look forward to, helping to boost employee morale.
Create a strong company culture
A great company culture is something that every employer should strive to achieve. A strong culture results in employees working towards the same goals, and sharing mutual visions for the future of the company. Having a workforce that can motivate each other in this way is the key to creating an inspirational and inviting workplace.
Recognise good work and performance
To maintain good levels of employee morale, make the effort to recognise your employees’ hard work regularly. Perhaps incorporate an ‘employee of the month’ scheme if you haven’t already, or provide monetary/gift incentives to encourage high quality work. This can really help to keep motivation levels high during the summer season.
Take your employees outside
Whether you organise weekly outside pic-nics, set up some outdoor games or encourage your employees to take a walk in the sunshine, encouraging your workforce to spend time outside during the workday will improve their overall happiness and productivity levels, giving them a boost for the rest of the day.
