How to maintain employee engagement over the Christmas period

Christmas is a lovely time of the year, even if it does look very different this year. With plenty of distractions, tighter deadlines, and the excitement of a few days off work, many team members need that extra boost in the run up to Christmas.

Now, more than ever it’s important to increase your employee engagement and motivate your team before Santa comes to town.

Here are some tips on how to maintain employee engagement over the Christmas period:

Send a Christmas card

This simple gesture expresses your thanks and gratitude especially following on from a tough and challenging year. Sending a Christmas card, especially when in a larger business makes all of your employees feel known and valued.

Let staff leave early

There’s no better incentive than to let your staff leave work once they’ve hit their target or completed all of their tasks for the day. This type of incentive will increase your productivity and boost your team’s morale.

Hold virtual events

2020 has been a very different year with working from home and lockdowns. You can keep employee engagement high by hosting your usual awards ceremonies and Christmas dinners via Zoom. All employees like to look forward to some festive entertainment.

One to ones

We would always suggest having a one to one with your employees just before you break up for Christmas. This allows you to implement a progression strategy moving into the New Year. Holding a one to one over the next week will allow employees to voice any gripes or fears allowing you to resolve these before the new year commences.

Sometimes simple and honest gestures mean the most to your team, in the run up to a very different Christmas this year. If you need any HR advice surrounding employee engagement, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our award-winning team of HR advisers.
