My employees aren’t listening to me, what can I do about it?

Are you struggling to get your staff to listen to you 🗣️?

You probably don’t want to admit that here, but between us, you’re not alone.

We have worked with loads of business owners who’ve had the same challenge. But fear not – there are solutions!

In our experience, the key to getting your staff to listen 👂 is through effective communication and engagement.

Sounds good, but what does that actually mean?

You need to start by creating a culture of open communication and establishing your expectations of all your people.

From there you can build a team 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 that’s motivated and engaged in their work.

You might think we are oversimplifying it, but it really can be that easy… IF you handle it the right way.

Here are a few tips 💡 that can help you get your staff to listen to you:

👉 Be clear and concise: Avoid technical jargon or complicated language. Communicate in a way that everyone can understand and relate to. Simplify everything, not because you think your people are stupid, but because there’s no point in overcomplicating things.
👉 Be consistent: Consistency helps build trust, so be consistent in your actions and words. If you say one thing and do another, your staff will lose faith in your leadership.
👉 Be approachable: If your team feels intimidated by you or uncomfortable coming to you with questions or concerns, they’ll also be less likely to listen to you. Make an effort to be approachable and friendly and encourage your staff to come to you with any issues they may have.
👉 Be empathetic: Put yourself in their shoes. If they’re struggling with a task or feeling overwhelmed, show empathy and offer support. It will help build a sense of camaraderie and teamwork and encourage your staff to listen to your guidance.
👉 Lead by example: When you’re demonstrating the behaviours and attitudes you expect from your staff, they’re more likely to follow your lead and listen to your guidance.
